The new electronic passport that the Canadian government will start issuing next spring contains a more advanced chip than previous versions of the documents, and brings improved security features. Authorities plan to make this passport valid for 10 years.
The new passport, with its improvements at the security level, will make forgery more difficult, and will prevent identity theft. On the other hand, the information storage functions will remain the same.
With this new passport, Canada will catch up in matters of identification with other 98 countries, including the G-8 nations.
