Research and consultation company Goode Intelligence predicts that biometric technology will be used in as many as 5.5 billion mobile and portable devices by the year 2019.
Fingerprint sensors in smartphones and tablets will play a key role in the growth of the biometric technology market. The use of multi-factor authentication (MFA), fast identity online (FIDO), and technologies like ID Touch that provide fingerprint biometrics also play big roles.
Goode Intelligence says there is a good possibility that companies like Apple will integrate biometrics via ID Touch or another form of biometric recognition.
The founder of Goode Intelligence, Alan Goode, said: “We believe that smartphones and tablets will be the first wave of consumer devices to include biometric authentication solutions, and other methods of portable technology will quickly follow suit.”
