Chilean citizens will have access to new identification cards and electronic passports starting on September 2. These identification cards and passports are made of polycarbonate with perforated laser etching. They will be UV-resistant and can withstand temperatures between 20 and 100 degrees Celsius.
This new system will eliminate the need for traditional ink-and-paper fingerprints by completely digitalizing identity data. It will also introduce facial biometrics and is expected to improve data security and durability.
