New biometric security developments

Researchers from the Laboratory of Biometric Technology at the Calgary University developed a way to combine several biometric systems in one platform.

The system would be able to join different biometric traits such as the eyes’ color, face shape or a person’s fingerprints, by using an algorithm that simulates the human brain’s learning and decision making capacity.

The algorithm can also learn biometric patterns associated to different information groups, allowing combining data such as fingerprints, voice, or walking style, instead of depending on a unique biometric trait.

The research was published in several specialized media of the field such as the Visual Computer and International Journal of Information Technology and Management, in addition to being publicly presented in 2011 in the CyberWorlds and International Conference on Cognitive Informatics & Cognitive Computing in Banff.
