Facial biometrics: A new ally in the fight against terrorism

Facial recognition technology was an integral tool in the investigation that led to the capture of the terrorists responsible for the horrific bombings that took place in Boston, USA.

Since the inception of this technology back in the 70s, facial biometrics have evolved and transformed into the high-tech system that is making waves today. The rudimentary versions were only able to distinguish basic facial features such as eyes, ears, noses, and mouths. However, modern systems are much more sophisticated and automated.

Today, facial biometrics can be used to identify people by the thickness of their lips or the color of their hair. Thanks to these advances, law enforcement can adapt the technology to daily life and apply it to police controls and security.
