Identity theft or spoofing occurs when a fraudulent user breaches or attacks a biometric system by pretending to be a legitimate registered user.
To combat this, the Tabula Rasa consortium, with the support of the European Union, has taken on the task of determining how well the new generation of biometric software functions, particularly in terms of how this relates to the growing number of identity theft attacks.
The work undertaken by this association is vital. The investigation is uncovering valuable information that can help strengthen current biometric systems.
The EU is investing around 4.4 million Euros in this project.
