Colombia will identify minors with biometric methods

Colombia will start to issue a new identity card in which the fingerprint data of the citizens is included.

Issuance of this new card will extend to minors from age 7 onwards; before this new system, ID cards were only given to youths between 14 and 17 years of age. This initiative will help to eliminate “ghost children” from the Education and Health systems.

Thanks to this system, Colombia becomes now one of the few countries in the world to identify its minors with an automatized comparison system for fingerprint and biographical information.
