Colombia to identify its citizens by their fingerprints

Colombian citizens will soon be able to prove their identity using fingerprints, thanks to a biometric identification system to be implemented in more than 16 state entities.

National Registrar, Carlos Ariel Sanchez, says this will help eliminate identity theft, which leads to fraud and other crimes.

The Colombian government currently has a biometric database with details of 1,000 million citizens.
