Biometrics to fight crime in Pueblo Libre (Peru)

Pueblo Libre will be the first district in the Andean country to implement biometric technology to allow identification and registration in a database of lawbreakers in its jurisdiction. The system will analyze and store fingerprint and face image data.

According to Chief of National Registry of Identification and Civil State Jorge Yrivarren, when criminals are apprehended, their prints and pictures will be taken, so as to start building a database that will help control recidivism.
